Iodine Uptake Results

Oh, I herd Dr. Raplee on tha phone....what am her sayin????

Momma gots Graves Disease??? What am THAT??? Hyperthyroidism???? Same fing? Yup.

Oh Momma, I is so worried bout you. I wubs you. (See how little her foot am?!?! Daddy say she shood sue them for non-support!)

(The uptake scan showed a cyst in the left side of my thyroid & I do have Graves disease. I have to see an endocrinologist sometime soon. I started taking Toprol for the rapid heart rate last night. Don't like taking anything that slows down my heart!! Thank you so much to all of Oreo's (& mine) friends for helping us out. We truly appreciate it, especially since it looks like I'll still have to see specialists.)

Mommy has a friend who has this. They gave her a radioactive pill that fried her thyroid and now she takes Synthroid forever and ever (They weaned her off the Toprol a long time ago.) Anyway, we just wanted to say that after they get you all fixed up (however they do it), you will feel all good again. This happened to her friend 6 years ago and she has felt good ever since, so hang in there, soon you'll be feeling better too.

Hang in there. At least you know now what the problem is. I'm sure you'll start feeling better soon.

I've known a number of people--but no cats--with hypothyroidism, Oreo, but not anyone with Graves'. From what I read about it, it seems pretty serious but quite treatable. I hope you're nice to your Mommy while she's getting treatment for this, Oreo.

Hi Oreo...

I was diagnosed with Graves' Diease when i was 16 years old. I took toporol, also...and something else also, but I can't remember. The medicine didn't work so well so I underwent a radioactive treatment that killed off the thyroid and I became HYPOthryoid, the opposite. Now I treat it with synthryoid daily. Both hyper thyroid and hypo thryoidism is very treatable. If your mommy has any questions she can email me anytime.

Ciao!

My dad had Graves Disease as well. It's one of the more common forms of hyper-thyroid, but usually one it's diagnosed it is controlled right away. Barbara Bush (as in Dubya's mom) had it too. One thing - make sure you watch your vision...in severe cases, your eyesight can be affected. My dad's was, but that's because he was a butthead and didn't go to the doctor right away.

Anyway, you and the kitty and all your folks hang in there, and have a good holiday.

Dear Sister,
I have hypo and you have hyper, hmm, we would have one good thyroid between us! You will be ok, I know it. You are very strong, for someone so short. By the way, your feet are not small! They just look small next to Oreo's! You have stomped on my foot many times so I know what I am talking about. TTYL

Oreo's mom - Dragonheart's mom here - glad to hear you have a diagnosis. Graves disease can be fairly easily treated. One of my good friends was diagnosed with Graves, underwent radioactive iodince treatment (which caused her to go hypo) and now takes thyroid medication daily. Other than some fatigue when she first went hypo, that was fixed once they adjusted her thyroid meds to the right levels, she's had no problems. Of course, any disease sucks (I have three chronic illnesses, so I can sympathize.)

Glad to hear it's not cancer, and I hope you get in to see an endocrinologist soon. Take care.

I am glad that you found out what the problem is and now you can treat it. I have the opposite and take synthroid every day. The hardest part of thyroid problems is finding the right dosage for the meds. Once that is done, you should feel great. I do. Oreo, take good care of your Momma. Give her some snuggles from me.

Happy New Year!

We're glad that your Mommy has a diagnosis and it's treatable. I have hyperthyroidism and I have to take half a pill twice a day. My symptom last summer) was that I constantly washed myself and licked my tummy bald! At first the vet thought that it was just "stress" and he told Mom to watch it. She didn't think I had a stressful life, and sure enough, when I had that awful bloodwork done, it found hyperthyroidism.

I saw that others noted that Barbara Bush had Graves Disease too. Well, so did the first president Bush. It was considered quite the coincident that they both were diagnosed with it within a couple of years. They even tested the water at the White House, Camp David, and Maine to see if there was too much iodine or lithium in it. (Check out http://www.doctorzebra.com/prez/g41.htm)

Wishing you and your family the best.
